How StorageAtlas works

Every number below is counted from our own data when you load this page. None of it is typed in by hand, so if our coverage gets worse this page will say so.

Where the prices come from

We read them off each facility's own website. Nobody at the facility confirms them to us, and we never take a rate from one branch and show it on another. When we cannot read a price we leave it blank rather than estimate one. That is why 10,707 of our 16,686 listings show no price at all.

1,196

listings whose price we re-read in the last 30 days

5,978

listings whose website we opened in the last 30 days, price found or not

10,708

listings still showing what we read on an earlier crawl

Each listing carries the month its information was read. A rate that is five months old is labelled as five months old. Rates change and operators are not obliged to tell us, so confirm the price with the facility before you count on it.

How listings are ordered

The default order is called Recommended. It puts listings that publish a price first, then sorts by rating. You can change it to price, rating, review count or how recently we checked, and the control sits above the results with its basis printed underneath.

No listing here is sponsored. Not one of the 16,686 listings carries a sponsorship flag. Sponsorship buys a label, never a position: nothing in the code that orders results reads that flag, and it never alters a price, a rating or a badge.

We may be paid by a facility when a renter we introduce actually rents from them. That is settled after the fact and it moves nothing in the results. Full disclosure.

What happens to your details

When you ask us for guidance, somebody from StorageAtlas rings you first. Nothing reaches a facility before that call. On the call we ask how many places you want introduced to — one, or a few — and that number is the limit. We cannot send your details to more facilities than you agreed to, and we cannot send them at all until you have been asked.

If you agree to more than one, each of those facilities will phone you separately. We say so on the call before you decide, because two or three calls instead of one is the part people do not expect.

What we do not know

Telling us we are wrong

Every listing has a report control beside its details. If a price, phone number, address or opening time is wrong, that is the fastest way to fix it, and a renter standing in front of the building is a better source than our crawler. Operators can claim their listing or write to us at [email protected].

StorageAtlas is a directory. We are not a storage operator, we do not own or run any facility listed here, and we cannot hold a unit for you.
